ASA 2018

  • 6 May 2018

The theme of ASA 2018 is ‘beyond ordinary’. This year CIG Kingspan collaborated with Metaphor Design Studio to create ‘aesthetics’ with meanings.

With Metaphor taking the lead, we came to a conclusion that our exhibition booth will prioritize the experience of the visitors. We would like to create a highly creative ground to inspire visitors into creating something special.

For our main structure, we used the ‘drafting paper’ (a.k.a. wax paper) so as to remind architects of the feeling when they use these papers to design. In this selection of material and design, we also fused the inherent ability of our KingZip–3D Roofing–which could be curved and convex just like the paper.

The decorative props were selected very carefully to recreate the space where architects are familiar and comfortable within. The chairs and lightboxes were specifically the ones architects used when drawing/drafting their design.

Art installations of rocks, bricks, and sand–the traditional materials to build a building–were displayed near the main structure.

‘These materials were traditional ones that we have been using for centuries. It’s about time to put them in museums.’

Play with Architecture

We wanted an activity for our visitors. An activity that does not based upon anyone’s prior experience or background. An activity that immerses you in creativity and overflows you with possibilities. This was where our designers–who are architects and interior designers themselves–started reminiscing back to when they were younger in search of something that would fit this prerequisite.

Thinking back, Folding Architecture was something that came straight to their minds. It was–and still is–an exercise that comes supplementary to getting a degree in Architecture in Thailand. Folding Architecture allows the people folding to unleash their imagination and it does not matter whether it’d be a thoughtful-planned art or an instinctive adaptation where you let your hand guides you.
